Rio, as we call him, is a 17 year old gelding who was found at the horse auction by one of our volunteers. He was brought by a local trader and we intervened before he could end up in a kill pen. The story that came with him is he was owned by an older gentleman who can no longer care for him. He supposedly used him for cattle work and roped off from him. We will get back to you on that....
We promised we would get back to you on Rio's under saddle work, and here is what we know now. Rio's feet were super tender when he arrived to us, so he is currently in front shoes, and is much happier, but should be able to go back to being barefoot once he gets a little more growth. Now that his feet are feeling good, and he is of a healthy weight, he has been ridden a couple of times. After his under saddle evaluation, we have decided that Rio needs to be a COMPANION HORSE ONLY. Under saddle he demonstrated some behaivor that indicates he is done with under saddle work and just wants to be loved on and be a pasture pet and we are more than happy to help him find that. He is a sweet horse, loves to be pampered, and would be a great pal to another horse.
